Enhanced Order of Block Copolymer Cylinders in Single-Layer Films Using a Sweeping Solidification Front

Significant improvements of the microdomain order in cylinder-forming diblock copolymer thin film samples subjected to directional solidification are reported. Samples annealed in a sweeping solidification front have defect densities reduced by two orders of magnitude compared to regular thermal annealing, whereas adding an oscillatory component to the solidification front decreases defect densities by two additional orders of magnitude
