A single-step electroless transmetallation-based approach to create nanoscale porosity in thin films and bulk surfaces has been described and its application in catalysis has been demonstrated. The vast commercial implications of galvanic replacement reactions to create large-scale functional nanomaterials can not be overemphasized.
