LaFe13−xSix alloys with porous architecture do not degrade mechanically during cycling and maintain their excellent cooling performance, which was not accessible before. The ability to control the magnetocaloric effect and hysteresis by tuning of crystallite size promises applicability of these materials in magnetic refrigeration and porous materials exhibiting a first-order transition in general in diverse energy-related applications.
