A new biomaterial (M-gel) is developed by incorporating magnetic nanoparticles into microscopic hydrogels. The material maintains the biocompatibility of the hydrogels, while contributing additional capabilities for culture and magnetic manipulation. These M-gels can be used as building blocks to create 3D complex multilayer constructs using external magnetic fields.
