Shape-memory poly(diol-co-citrates) are poly-esters with thermosensitive optical and mechanical behaviour. Below their transition temperature (Ttrans) these materials become opaque and hard, whereas above Ttrans they are transparent elastomers. The mechanism for these phenomena includes the formation of reversible physical crosslinks within the covalently cross-linked polymer network, report Guillermo Ameer and co-workers on p. 2211.
