A facile self-assembly method is reported by J. Yao, Y. S. Zhao, and co-workers for the preparation of highquality crystalline microrings from organic molecules. On page 357, they describe how the well-defined ring structures are formed by the ordered packing of molecules around the solution droplets. Fluorescence could be confined as active optical resonance in the ring cavities, providing new opportunities for the fabrication of on-chip photonic elements via molecular assembly approaches.
