UV excimer laser irradiation of oxides such as SrTiO3, PbTi1 − xZrxO3 (PZT) and Al2O3 results in the formation of colour centres. These colour centres mediate catalytic activity for electroless plating from Cu and Ni solutions. The adherence of the metal deposits to the as-sintered ceramic surfaces is excellent.
