Abstract

A new method of determining the ultrasonic absorption coefficients in liquids has been developed. A small cell containing a liquid is placed in the path of the ultrasonic beam produced in the liquid under investigation and is surrounded by a constant temperature bath. The steady difference in temperatures of the liquids in the cell and outside is measured for different positions of the cell along the path of the beam. The ultrasonic absorption coefficient α/v2 is determined from such measurements.
