Abstract

A detection system has been designed for obtaining the hyperfine structure signals of highly excited levels of the copper ion. The excitation of the level under investigation was attained by use of a hollow cathode of high temperature. Because of the excitation mechanism the signal was completely concealed by the temperature radiation simultaneously produced in the hollow cathode. The detection technique consists in a modification of low level photonpulse-counting method employing a differential pulse ratemeter.
