On the Nuclear Interaction of Non-lonizing N-Component of Cosmic-Rays in Lead at Sea Level (12°N)

Abstract

The production rate of nuclear interactions by neutral N-component of cosmic-rays of mean energy 15 GeV at sea level was studied as function of absorber thickness by means of a cloud chamber operated by coincidence and anticoincidence technique. The value of collision free path of non-ionizing N-rays in lead was found to be 232 ± 29 g/cm2 and the collision cross-section 1.50 ± 0.19 bn. The estimated nucleon inelasticity for pion production in these interactions was 0.4.
