Ein lineares polymeres Rotaxan bildet sich bei der Verknüpfung in β-Cyclodextrin eingeschlossener 4,4′-Bipyridin-Einheiten durch NiII-Ionen (siehe Bild). Die Wirt-Gast-Chemie wurde in Lösung und im festen Zustand untersucht.
