Protein-Kohlenhydrat-Wechselwirkungen können mithilfe von faseroptischen Arrays mit zufällig angeordneten Mikrokügelchen, die immobilisierte synthetische Oligosaccharide tragen, analysiert werden (siehe Schema). Zwei Systeme wurden untersucht: das Mannose-bindende Lectin Concanavalin A und Cyanovirin N. Letzteres ermöglicht die simultane und eindeutige Evaluierung von fünf verschiedenen Strukturen bezüglich eines Kohlenhydrat-bindenden Proteins.
