Eine schnelle und direkte Iodierung von Phe-Resten in Peptiden wurde bei Behandlung mit IPy2BF4 beobachtet. Die experimentellen Bedingungen wurden optimiert (siehe Schema), und die Rolle der Peptidyl-Fragmente bei der Bildung des flüchtigen ortho-Iod-Isomers (Hauptprodukt) wurde untersucht.
