Methan, ein Baustein für Grundchemikalien: Beim Überleiten einer Methan/Propan-Mischung über einen Tantalhydridkatalysator bei 250 °C wird Propan durch den Einbau einer Methaneinheit in zwei Ethanmoleküle überführt. Diese Reaktion entspricht einer Kreuzmetathese von Propan und Methan (siehe Schema).
