Ein Sulfanylhexanol-Kupplungsreagens steht bei der Herstellung von GaAs-PMMA-Hybridverbindungen durch oberflächeninitiierte radikalische Atomtransferpolymerisation (ATRP) von Methylmethacrylat im Mittelpunkt (siehe Schema). Es passiviert die GaAs-Oberfläche und immobilisiert den ATRP-Initiator. Die GaAs-Oberflächenzustände werden durch den ATRP-Prozess kaum verändert. PMMA=Polymethylmethacrylat.
