Wählerisch: Die hexagonalen {001}- oder {00equation image}-Flächen von L-Cystin-Einkristallen werden selektiv mit Goldnanopartikeln belegt, wenn die Kristalle in eine Lösung der Nanopartikel getaucht werden (siehe Bild). Ursache für die Selektivität ist eine anisotrope molekulare Packung von L-Cystin im Einkristall.
