Ungewöhnlich koordiniert: Die Titelanionen sind die ersten Beispiele für doppelt geladene Heptaazido-Anionen und strukturell charakterisierte Übergangsmetallheptaazide. Anders als das entweder einfach überdachte oktaedrische oder pentagonal-bipyramidale Actinoid-Trianion [U(N3)7]3−, doch in Einklang mit dem [NbF7]2−-Anion liegen in den Titelanionen einfach überdachte trigonal-prismatische Strukturen vor (siehe Bild; M=Nb, Ta).
