Eine chirale Brønsted-Säure hilft bei der enantioselektiven [3+2]-Photocycloaddition eines substituierten 3-Hydroxyflavons mit Zimtsäuremethylester zur Totalsynthese des Naturstoffs (−)-Silvestrol (1). Biologische Studien ergaben für Silvestrol eine 5- bis 10-mal höhere Aktivität bei der Hemmung der Proteinsynthese in HeLa-Zellen als für das 1′′′′-Diastereomer.
