Ringe in Aufruhr: Der Einschub eines verdrehten Pyrrolrings destabilisiert ein Mesoarylsapphyrin-Gerüst und erzwingt einen Ringschluss. Die anschließende Metallierung mit Rhenium resultiert in einer weiteren Anellierung unter Bildung eines Sapphyrins mit fünf anellierten Ringen (siehe Schema).
