Das Zwei-Komponenten-Modell sargförmiger, verwachsener Kristalle von Zeolith ZSM-5 wurde mithilfe einer Kombination von Rückstreu-Elektronenbeugung und Ionenstrahlätzen verifiziert (siehe Bild). Die erste Methode offenbarte die Ausrichtung des Kanalsystems der einzelnen Kristalluntereinheiten, die zweite ermöglichte die Visualisierung dieser Bausteine.
