Richtig kombiniert: In einer katalytischen asymmetrischen Dreikomponentenreaktion werden zwei Kohlenstoffstereozentren in einem Schritt aufgebaut (siehe Schema; erythro/threo 90:10, bis 80 % Ausbeute, 98 % ee). Die Reaktion führt in guten Ausbeuten und mit ausgezeichneten Enantioselektivitäten zu α,β-Dihydroxysäure-Derivaten. Bn=Benzyl.
