Insiderwissen: Mithilfe von Elektronentomographie wurde erstmals ein genaues Bild der inneren Struktur einer komplexen konzentrischen hexagonalen Mesostruktur erhalten. Die Technik unterscheidet zwischen Mesostrukturen aus geschlossenen Ringen und geschlossenen helikalen Mesostrukturen. Entscheidend für den Erfolg der Methode ist der Einsatz unter 1 nm dünner tomographischer Schnitte (siehe Bild).
