Ein unüblicher Kupplungspartner: Der Nickel-Carborin-Komplex 1 reagiert mit substituierten Styrolen 2 hoch regio- und stereoselektiv sowie in mäßigen bis sehr guten Ausbeuten zu Alkenylcarboranen. Dadurch können Produkte wie bei Heck- (3) oder En-Reaktionen (4) entstehen (siehe Schema). Ein Mechanismus mit Alkeninsertion und nachfolgender β-Hydrideliminierung und reduktiver Eliminierung wird vorgeschlagen.
