Wichtig für Methanol-Brennstoffzellen: Bei der Reaktion von Atomen früher Übergangsmetalle im Grundzustand mit Methanol in einer Argonmatrix entstehen spontan Diwasserstoff und Methoxidsalze M(OMe)2 (M=Sc, Ti, V, Nb). Die Befunde belegen, dass selbst bei tiefen Temperaturen Wasserstoff direkt durch die Umsetzung von Metallatomen im Grundzustand mit Methanol produziert werden kann.
