Abstract

Eine Reaktionskaskade aus einer Diels-Alder-Reaktion, einer Lactolisierung und einer SN(Ar)-Substitution liefert das Kerngerüst von BE-43472B. K. C. Nicolaou et al. beschreiben die erste Totalsynthese dieses Bisanthrachinon-Antibiotikums in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 3496 ff. Als Hintergrund des Titelbilds dient ein Foto von Ecteinascidia turbinata (von John Easley Photography), der marinen Quelle des Streptomyces-Stamms, der das Antibiotikum produziert.
