Ein in situ erzeugter Rutheniumkatalysator überführt einfache Diole mit primären Aminen in einer Stufe in cyclische Imide. Atomökonomische und leicht ausführbare Synthesen von Succinimiden, Phthalimiden und Glutarimiden, wichtige Bausteine für Naturalstoffe und Wirkstoffe, werden vorgestellt.
