Ein Arenring maskiert den niedervalenten und niederkoordinierten VII-Komplex [(nacnac)V(Ntol2)] und ermöglicht so die einfache Koordination terminaler Liganden an das Vanadiumzentrum. Die Aktivierung kleiner Moleküle durch diesen S=3/2-Komplex bietet einen einfachen Zugang zu einer breiten Auswahl von Ligandengerüsten, wie terminalen VIV-Imido-, VIV-Cyclopropen- und VV-Nitrid-Komplexen sowie dem ersten VV-cyclo-P3-Komplex (siehe Schema).
