Mit einem Zellfänger bedeckt ist ein nanostrukturiertes Substrat, mit dessen Hilfe – in Kombination mit einer chaotisch durchmischenden Mikrofluidikeinheit – sich zirkulierende Tumorzellen hocheffizient aus Vollblut isolieren lassen. H.-R. Tseng et al. demonstrieren in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 3140 ff., dass diese Technik eine neue Möglichkeit für die Früherkennung einer Krebsmetastasierung eröffnet, die mit herkömmlichen Verfahren nicht detektierbar ist.
