Es geht auch ohne Metallhydrid: Die Reaktion zwischen 2 Äquivalenten Ph2P(CH2)2NH2 und cis-[Ru(CH3CN)23-C3H5)(cod)]BF4 (cod=1,5-Cyclooctadien) liefert die hoch aktive Katalysatorvorstufe 1 für die selektive Hydrierung von Amiden. Diese atomökonomische Reaktion, die unter schonenden Bedingungen hohe Umsatzzahlen (TONs) und Ausbeuten ergibt, bietet eine nachhaltige Alternative zur üblichen Verwendung von Metallhydriden in Forschung und Industrie.
