Ummantelte Oligothiophene wurden verwendet, um Einzelmolekül-Leitfähigkeiten zu untersuchen. UV/Vis/NIR-Messungen der oxidierten Spezies zeigen die Abwesenheit intermolekularer Wechselwirkungen zwischen den konjugierten Hauptketten. Die Leitfähigkeit eines Einzelmolekülkontakts wurde mithilfe modifizierter STM-Techniken gemessen (siehe Bild), und die Abklingkonstante β wurde zu 1.9 nm−1 bestimmt. SMU=Messgerät.
