Mehr oder weniger frustriert: Frustrierte Lewis-Paare (FLPs) aus ArF2BH 1 und NEt3 oder DABCO können H2 unter milden Bedingungen aktivieren. Rechnungen zufolge beschreiten die FLPs unterschiedliche Reaktionswege: Das „stärker frustrierte“ ArF2BH/NEt3 aktiviert H2 stufenweise, das „weniger frustrierte“ ArF2BH/DABCO in einer konzertierten Reaktion (siehe Schema).
