Erleuchtende Partikel: Ein neues Kontrastmittel für die Röntgen-Computertomographie (CT) besteht aus einem ytterbiumbasierten Nanopartikel (NP), das mit Ölsäure stabilisiert und mit dem biokompatiblen Polymer DSPE-PEG 2000 modifiziert ist (siehe Bild). Das Kontrastmittel zeigt eine lange Zirkulationszeit in vivo, ist wenig toxisch und effizienter als ein klinisch eingesetztes iodiertes Agens.
