„Tief Luftholen“ ist angesagt für die Titelreaktion, die Amine unter milden Bedingungen mit Nitroalkanen und nichtmodifizierten Ketonen kuppelt, denn dabei dient Luft alleine als Oxidationsmittel. Der praktische Prozess kommt mit geringen Katalysatormengen aus und liefert die Produkte nach kurzen Reaktionszeiten in guten Ausbeuten.
