Auf direktem Weg: Heterofullerene mit eingebautem Bor sind nur wenig erforscht, da keine Bildungsroute ausgehend von C60 bekannt ist. Nun wurde gefunden, dass C59B, eine elektronisch geschlossenschalige Spezies, durch einfache Atomaustauschreaktionen aus unbehandeltem C60 in der Gasphase gebildet wird.
