Zuckersüß: Glykane auf lebenden Zellen konnten direkt mithilfe von oberflächenverstärkter Raman-Streuung (SERS) detektiert werden. Monosaccharid-analoge Verbindungen wurden mit einem bioorthogonalen Raman-Reporter modifiziert. Sobald der Raman-Reporter in den Zelloberflächen-Glykanen metabolisch eingebaut war, konnte er mithilfe von SERS detektiert werden (siehe Bild).
