Genschalter für Keimzellen: Das dynamische Epigenom koordiniert die genomweite transkriptionelle Aktivierung, die beispielsweise die interindividuelle Diversität in Keimzellen, die sich von somatischen Zellen durch ihre Fähigkeit zur meiotischen Teilung unterscheiden, steuert. Eine epigenetisch aktive, synthetische niedermolekulare Substanz kann jetzt die Aktivierung des PIWI-Gens auslösen, das die Meiose in humanen somatischen Zellen reguliert.
