Als erster η8-Hauptgruppenmetallkomplex wurde Bariumdibenzopentalenid durch Einführung von Ba-C-Bindungen in phenylsubstituierte 1,4-Dilithio-1,3-butadienyl-Gerüste erhalten. Synthese, Röntgen-Kristallstrukturanalyse und Reaktionen dieser Komplexe beschreiben Z. Xi et al. in der Zuschrift auf S. 11022 ff. Funktionalisierte Dibenzopentalene können ausgehend von Dibenzopentaleniden synthetisiert werden.
