Bis(I2)-Addukte von Hexamethoniumdihalogeniden sind so organisiert, dass sie auf dynamisches Heizen reagieren und eine Struktur annehmen können, aus der die Bildung von relativ instabilen, bisher unbekannten [I2Br2]2−- und [I2Cl2]2−-Tetrahalogeniden möglich ist, die in Lösung nicht erhalten werden können (siehe Bild). Die kavitätsgesteuerte Reaktivität bietet neue Möglichkeiten für die Synthese und Umwandlung von Polyhalogenanionen.
