  • In line with IUPAC nomenclature, it is proposed that ylides of type R3P[DOUBLE BOND]C[DOUBLE BOND]C[DOUBLE BOND]X be disignated as phosphacumulene ylides and those of type R3P[DOUBLE BOND]C[DOUBLE BOND]CR′2 as phosphaallene ylides.

  • Dedicated to Professor Georg Wittig on the occasion of his 80th birthday

Phosphacumulene ylides and phosphaallene ylides are nucleophilic compounds which can add reactants in a variety of ways. Cycloadditions can occur both at the polar C—P ylide bond and at the C[DOUBLE BOND]C double bond.
