A “simple” fourfold bridged Mo[TRIPLE BOND]Mo triple bond is present in the purple-red complex (1) which is formed by slow mixing of the reactants listed below. “Simple” M[TRIPLE BOND]M bonds do not contain δ bonding (σ4 π4).
