  • Professor Franz Sondheimer was one of the most influential acetylene chemists of the 20th century and from whom the author learned his first acetylene chemistry while studying at University College, London, as a doctoral student jointly with him and P. J. Garratt.

Abstract

The first total synthesis of calicheamicin γmath image was achieved approximately a year ago. In this article, the author presents a personal account of the events, in chronological order, that led to this success story in total synthesis.
