Rearranging RNA: Defined RNA secondary-structure rearrangements can be controlled by chemically functionalized nucleobases. The proof of principle for this previously unrecognized concept for manipulating secondary structures is based on a novel type of functionalized guanosine residue that provides an easily cleavable trichloroethyl (tce) moiety at the Watson–Crick base-pairing site (see scheme).
