A good couple: Highly selective aerobic allylic oxidation with C[BOND]C bond formation is achieved by the use of coupled palladium and iron catalysis (see scheme; FePc=iron phthalocyanine). The use of an oxygen-activating catalyst is necessary for an efficient electron transfer from Pd0 to O2. The utility of this method is enhanced by the immobilization of the iron catalyst onto a resin.
