Abstract

Not much pressure: Taking advantage of the low volatility of ionic liquids, together with their excellent absorption of microwave radiation, highly oriented coatings of zeolites on metals have been prepared at ambient pressure (see picture; O red, Al blue, P yellow, T=Al, P), thus circumventing the usual high pressures associated with zeolite synthesis. This technique offers a simplified synthesis that may be used in many other applications of zeolites.
