Selectively building facet-defined silver: Recent advances in colloidal synthesis indicate that Ag{111} and Ag{100} crystal facets can be easily developed by epitaxial growth in the presence of sodium citrate (Na3CA) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), respectively. This size- and dimension-controlled synthetic method shows potential for use in such applications as surface-enhanced Raman scattering.
