Directed C[BOND]H annulation reactions provide a straightforward solution to the synthesis of substituted indoles. In their Communication on page 5795 ff., Y. Huang and co-workers describe a general protocol for the synthesis of unprotected indoles. By using a cleavable triazene as the directing group, C[BOND]H annulation with a wide scope of alkynes was accomplished with excellent regioselectivity for both aryl,alkyl and alkyl,alkyl disubstituted acetylenes.
