The simplicity of mechanochemical reactions namely chemical reactions induced or sustained by mechanical milling or grinding, is contrasted by the poor level of understanding of their mechanisms. In their Communication on page 11538 ff., T. Friščić and co-workers demonstrate how their recently developed technique for the real-time and in situ monitoring of milling reactions by using synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction can be used for the synthesis and transformation of pharmaceutical organic cocrystals.
