Crystallinity of siloxane polymers

Abstract

Four homopolymers (dimethyl-, phenylmethyl-, diphenyl-, and trifluoropropylmethylpolysiloxanes) and two copolymer systems (dimethylsiloxane–phenylmethylsiloxane and phenylmethylsiloxane–diphenylsiloxane) have been studied by observing spherulite nucleation, growth, and melting. A characteristic crystallization temperature is proposed which can be considered representative of the equilibrium freezing–melting point. This work isolates the crystallinity characteristics of pure siloxane polymer and copolymer systems.
