The microbial-mediated transformation of sunflower oil to an adhesive product is detailed by Varadharajan Kavitha, Asit Baran Mandal, and Arumugam Gnanamani. The cover displays a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image at a high magnification (x6500) of the biopolymer characterized as a dimerized fatty acid of sunflower oil. At a low magnification, the top surface shows fissure morphology, while a slightly higher magnification displays a clear layering pattern. Upon further magnification, typical convoluted membrane-like structures are seen. The dimerization is effected using microbes under in situ conditions. Because the dimerization of fatty acids and the resultant adhesive product does not incorporate external harmful agents, this constitutes a green method of preparing adhesive products.
