ACR State-of-the-Art Symposium
The American College of Rheumatology's 2006 State-of-the-Art Symposium will be held April 8–9 at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel in downtown Chicago. This day-and-a-half meeting will provide an opportunity for presentation of new findings in both clinical and basic research, outlining the directions of state-of-the-art investigation and future prospects in the management of the conditions addressed by practicing rheumatologists. On Friday, April 7, the ACR will be offering a one-day Practice Management Course and the ACR/ABIM SEP Learning Session for Recertification. Both courses require a separate registration fee. On Sunday, April 9, the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) will offer a one-of-a-kind course, Basic Immunology for Clinicians: Update 2006. The deadline for advance registration for the 2006 State-of-the-Art Symposium is March 10, 2006; registration fees are reduced if received on or before that date. A special group rate for hotel rooms is also available if the reservation is received on or before March 10. Nominations for ACR Awards of Distinction and Masters Due April 14
Nominations for the 2005 ACR Awards of Distinction and ACR Masters are due April 14. To nominate someone for one of the Awards of Distinction (Paulding Phelps Award, Distinguished Service Award, Distinguished Rheumatologist Award, Distinguished Investigator Award, Henry Kunkel Young Investigator Award, Clinical Research Award, and Presidential Gold Medal), the sponsor must submit a nomination form, a letter of nomination, two additional letters of recommendation, and a copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae. To nominate someone for Master status, the sponsor must submit a nomination form and two letters of recommendation from voting members of the ACR. The letters should explain how the nominee has set the highest professional standards in advancing the art and science of rheumatology. Nominees for ACR Master must have reached the age of 65 before October 1, 2006. Nomination forms for Awards of Distinction and Masters are available from the Membership Department at the ACR office and in the Membership section of the ACR Web site. Completed nomination packets should be sent to Chair, Committee on Nominations and Appointments, c/o the ACR office. The 2006 award recipients will be honored at the ACR Annual Meeting in Washington, DC in November.
ACR Invites Nominations for Leadership Positions
The ACR encourages all members to participate in forming policy and conducting activities of the College by assuming positions of leadership in the organization. Appointments will become effective at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting in November. Positions are available on the following committees: Corporate Relations, Education, Ethics and Conflict of Interest, Finance, Government Affairs, Journal Publications, Nominations and Appointments, Quality Measures, Research, Rheumatologic Care, and Rheumatology Training and Workforce Issues. Positions are also available on the Research and Education Foundation Board of Directors and on the ACR Board of Directors. Two officer positions—Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer—are available as well. Members are invited to submit names of candidates to serve as officers, on committees, or on the Board of Directors.
